In December 1971, the founder of the school, Bishop Stanislaus Lokuang, envisioned the necessity of establishing a nursing school after the establishment of Cardinal Tien Hospital. Therefore, the Taipei Archdiocese donated the land for ¡§Cardinal Tien Nursing & Midwife Vocational Senior High School¡¨ in remembrance and adoration of Bishop Tien Ken-sin, who was the first Archbishop in Asia. The school had a humble start, with the single Department of Nursing at the beginning.

In August 2001, the school was upgraded as ¡§Cardinal Tien Junior College of Nursing¡¨, with the Department of Nursing originally. Later in 2004, the Department of Early Childhood Educare was then launched, followed by the Department of Cosmetic Applications & Management the next year. In February 2007, the school was renamed ¡§Cardinal Tien College of Healthcare & Management.¡¨ In the same year, the Department of Information Management was established. In order to solve the insufficiency of school space, the Yilan Division of the school was founded in 2008 along with the Departments of Nursing, Cosmetic Applications & Management, and Health & Leisure Management, and the Department of Media Arts was also established at the division in 2009.

In November 2004, we were honored to be rated by the Ministry of Education as first-class in the categories of nursing departments as well as general subjects. In the 2010 Junior College Evaluation, we were once again honored with first classes in the categories of school administration, cosmetic applications & management, and child educare departments.

"Hsin" Initial period (1971-1989)

The school was founded by Archbishop Stanislaus Lo Kuang of the Taipei Archdiocese. In Asia, Thomas Tien Ken-Hsin was the first Archbishop who won the Pope¡¦s appointment. For remembering Thomas Tien Ken-Hsin with gratitude for his lifetime of contribution to the church, the country and the society, Archbishop Stanislaus Lo Kuang built up Cardinal Tien hospital. Afterwards, he also fostered the good nurses to further enhance the quality of medical care and to manifest the spirit and great love of Jesus Christ. Bishop Di Gang adhered to this philosophy, raising funds in Germany. He successfully raised the first-phase construction of the necessary money. Besides, the Taipei Archdiocese donated over more than 6,000 square meters of land to the school.

In August, 1971 ¡§Cardinal Tien Nursing & Midwife Vocational Senior High School¡¨ was established. In the first year, the school recruited three classes of the 4-year nursing midwifery training department. Then there were only 12 classes in the beginning and there was only one building¡XCardinal Tien Building with four layers on the ground and one layer basement. The whole campus except the building was the lawn. In this tiny but delicate environment, the school depended on the support by the Church and the government. The students have won many awards among interschool competitions and had further study. Moreover, the school received the first prize in High School Medical Evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 1986. All of the performance formed the strong foundation for further development. Such performance and results in the beginning of the new school was valuable.

"Geng" Hardworking and growing period (1989-2002)

In 1989 academic year, the school had changed midwife major into three-year nursing department. In 1993 academic year, the number of the classes reached to 33. In addition, the school was actively seeking funding for construction of the new building and the establishment of nursing practice teaching instrument and equipment. 10-story "Delan Building" was completed in year 1994, and ¡§Cardinal Tien¡¦s building" was reconstructed. After the transform of nursing department, students¡¦ passing rate of certificates increased. The school creates record peaks, and is favored by the authorities. The school hosts the provincial nursing teachers¡¦ workshop many times and has become the benchmark nursing schools.

From 1997 academic year, the school actively endeavored to become a technical college. From 2000, the school actively hired teachers with master and PHD degrees and enlarged the campus to seven hectare. The funding for transform to college was supported by many staffs and faculties in school as well as Taipei church and Cardinal Tien Hospital. The school then gradually established laboratories in professional practice and the ward teaching equipment. In June, 2001, Ministry of Education finally agreed and approved the school to change to a nursing junior college. Cardinal Tien junior college in the "standing" year was successfully changed to a professional junior college. The school included six classes for five-year junior college, and two classes for two-year college in the beginning. In 2004 accreditation by Ministry of Education, the school was awarded first class achievement in nursing department as well as common subject department.

"Hsin Hsin" The thriving period (2001 till now)

In response to social change, the school planned the future overall development to match up to national policies and social needs. Since the 2004 academic year, the school gradually set up Child Care Department (which was renamed Department of Infant and Child Educare in the 2013 academic year) and Department of Cosmetic Applications and Management. Teresa Building has been completed and opened in December 2006. Approved by the Ministry of Education in February 2007, the school renamed Cardinal Tien Junior College of Healthcare and Management. In the 2007 academic year, the school set up Department of Information Management. At this point, both the overall development of school and developable area of the school ground have already saturated. In order to develop smoothly and to meet the standard of establishment of a college, the school was eager to find another school ground to set up the branch. Under the school board and the principal¡¦s various efforts, the school decided to use the Yilan school ground which was donated by Archdiocese of Taipei to conduct the establishment plan for the branch.

Yilan campus, the school's second campus, was formally established in January 2008. In the early stage, the school set up Department of Nursing, Department of Health Beauty and Department of Health and Leisure Management (which changed its name to Department of Health and Hospitality in the 2009 school year). Department of Digital Media Design was set up in the 2009 school year. After years of efforts, the development of Cardinal Tien showed a new look. The school was growing and upgrading in hardware construction, teaching equipment and the structure of teachers. In the initial stage, an administrative building, teaching building and two student dormitories were built in Yilan campus. In order to provide better teaching and school construction, the third student dormitory, the second teaching building, and a Chinese food cooking classroom for Department of Health and Hospitality (formerly Department of Health and Leisure Management) were completed and started to be used. The fourth dormitory was completed and opened to students in February 2012, so that the accommodation and security management would be more perfection. The Internship Hotel and Hsin Cafe were founded in December 2012 for Department of Health and Hospitality. The Spa Ecological Zone was completed and opened in June 2013. Those facilities combining with local characteristics and contributing to local residents provided practice and teaching use for students in Department of Health and Hospitality. Hsin Gallery for Department of Digital Media Design was set up in May 2013 and provided teachers and students to exhibit their teaching and learning outcome. In addition to enhancing professional learning equipment, the school actively engaged teachers with practical experience in workplace to provide pragmatic lessons.

Five-year program is currently the main school academic system. The Department of Infant and Child Educare has 2-year in-service program, and the department of Cosmetics Applications and Management has dual system program. In 2000, the school recruited the students from Mainland China to provide the short-term study. In the medical profession and cultural exchange, the plan has shown impressive and brilliant results. In terms of construction, faculty, curriculum and facilities, the school continues to improve all of them. In the campus, we emphasize not only the professional ethics, but also the cultivation of humanities among teachers and students. The school is also committed to the holistic education¡Xthe oneness of body, mind and spirit; thus the school, the teachers and the students all have outstanding performances. In June 2009, we were honored with first classes in TNAC Nursing Evaluation. Furthermore, in May 2010 Junior College Evaluation, we were honored with first classes in administration, the Department of Cosmetic Applications and Management, and the Department of Child Educare. From now on, we continue to uphold the principle of "Respecting God and loving people," the adaptability of students¡¦ talents, and the distinguished teaching philosophy to promote Cardinal Tien Junior College of Healthcare and Management.
